Sir Francis Chichester completes world first single-handed world circumnavigation

226 days after setting off, Sir Francis Chichester arrives in Plymouth wearing a Henri Lloyd Consort jacket in the traditionally unlucky colour for sailors green - when asked why green and how difficult it would be to spot him in the water - his answer was "who would be there to see me?"

Sir Robin Knox-Johnson circumnavigates the globe non-stop

From the very early days Mr Henri understood the significance of product endorsement and to be involved in the great sailing and exploration firsts. Sir Robin Knox-Johnson was one of the first and probably the longest association with the company. Sir Robin became the world's first non-stop circumnavigator of the globe.

Transglobe Expedition - first circumnavigation of the globe by the poles

Referred to as 'The world's last great adventure' by the New York Times, the Transglobe Expedition sees Sir Ranulph Fiennes - protected by Henri Lloyd foul weather gear - trek through 100,000 miles of demanding Arctic and Antarctic conditions. The expedition saw the first outing for a latex sealed dry suit - a piece of kit which saved the life of one of the team as he went overboard into the freezing Bering Strait.

When the Whitbread Race authorities stipulated that crew members must wear one-piece survival suits, Henri-Lloyd co-developed the C02-insulated Sisstemair. Designed to allow upto 11 hours survival in 5 Degrees C water temperature.
