Spectacular Start to Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week

Flag04 August 2010

Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week 2010 starts this Saturday with two of the well loved events of the week – Falmouth Classics and Falmouth Marching Carnival.

2010 sees the celebration of the twenty second year of Falmouth Classics regattas. This annual event has a reputation for being a relaxed regatta, with the emphasis on the fun and camaraderie associated with traditional boats and the people who sail them. Sponsored again this year by Hayes Parsons, the whole harbour and bay will be filled with colour and sail.

Falmouth Carnival is shaping up to be another ‘not to be missed’ spectacle with entries flooding in, and many others turning up on the day. Catch the amazing costumes and take in the magic of the carnival, including the fabulous Yellow Submarine created by students from Falmouth School in the Falmouth Waterfront Crew. Witness the fierce competition between Falmouth Marine Band and Falmouth RNLI for the best costume in the line up and catch the parade as it makes its way from Falmouth Rugby Club at 6.30pm, via the Moor and through the town centre streets to finish at Falmouth Watersports Centre.

Saturday 7th August also sees the start of the Surf Life Saving Sports Championships, with the Masters tournament at Gyllyngvase Beach. The event,  returning to Falmouth for it second year, will see over 1000 Surf Lifesavers aged from 7 to over 70,  competing on the beach and in the sea in a series of dynamic disciplines of the Life Saving Sport.

‘There’s a wonderful variety of events taking place as part of Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week. The shore-side committee have worked hard to ensure there is something for everyone throughout the town during the week’ commented Richard Gates, Town Manager and Chairman of the Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week Shore-side committee.

The non-stop entertainment also kicks off at Event Square with a daytime craft fair and children's activities. The week sees different markets on the Square, including ‘Fal Flora’ on Friday 13th August with plants and garden goods on sale at bargain prices, with stall holders from garden centres to avid gardeners offering home-grown produce. ‘exposedART’ will provide artists with the opportunity to showcase and sell their work in the main marquee on Wednesday 11th August. Entertainment at Events Square finishes with the End of Week Party, sponsored by Vospers.

‘Hells Bells’ the AC/DC tribute band, will head up the week’s entertainment at the Princess Pavilion, with events to appeal to every taste - from band concerts, Garden Party, children’s entertainment and choirs, with ‘Little Feat’, the classic American rock band completing the impressive line-up for the week.

The packed programme of events unrolls on the Moor on Saturday 7th August, with free lunchtime live acoustic sessions with Forgotten Heroes from 12 noon to 2pm, followed throughout the week with family entertainment and free daytime music, art fairs and markets with live evening music on the last Friday and Saturday.
